Built in 1924, the Jekel house is of historical significance in downtown Riverside. It was built by the (then) president of Loma Linda University. The (fully finished) basement was used as a speakeasy during prohibition and the doctor actually saw some patients in the basement.
This is a huge house (3,500 sf) with large rooms.
There is also a “baby nook” (or reading room) situated between bedrooms A & B.
The house features a living room (20’x20.5’), a front room (16’x14’ w/fireplace), a bonus room/office (13’x22’ with built-in cabinets and alcoves), a formal dining room (14’x11’), a breakfast nook (9’x8’ with built in cabinets and drawers), a kitchen (11’x11’), and a washroom (11’x7’).
The house has 2-1/2 bathrooms. Both full bathrooms have jetted tubs and the downstairs bathroom has an oversized jetted tub (6’x4’, tub interior is 5’x3.25’). Both bathrooms are huge and the upstairs bathroom has a separate room for the toilet.
The house has a finished basement separated into four rooms: main basement (21’x20’, with stairs from the main hallway), an office (11’x8’), a furnace room (unfinished), and a basement foyer with stairs leading outside. Almost 600 sf not included in the size!
There is also a sun porch over the kitchen/washroom/bathroom areas that is accessible from bedroom C & D. Bedrooms A & B have their own private balconies. The landing on the stairs opens to its own outside balcony.
The patio area has a wonderful brick BBQ area (though there currently is no BBQ unit installed, natural gas is run to the unit should someone decide to install one. Currently, this is used as a planter/garden area.
The property has several mature fruit trees (plum, orange, tangerine, lemon, and Mexican Lime). including a second orange tree.
The house includes a two-car detached garage with a separate driveway (from an alley). There is also a 20’x30’x14’ carport on the back for parking RVs or other vehicles, on a separate (back driveway). The back driveway can accommodate 4+ vehicles. All driveways are fenced and lockable for security. Except for the front yard, the property is totally fenced.
The house includes two independent AC/Furnace units and a whole house fan. Even better, the house includes 41 high-efficiency LG solar panels that provide 100% solar power with normal use (no expensive electric bills in the summer!).
The house sits on a “lot and a half” on Mission Inn Ave and includes a HUGE pool, great for cooling off on hot summer days.
